Turning of the Sod kickstarts Cabrini's Next Era

In July, we held a symbolic turning of the sod event at Cabrini Malvern to officially kickstart the Next Era campaign and to recognise the incredible contributions of our project’s generous donors, supporters and Government representatives, all of whom have played major roles in supporting us to reach this significant redevelopment milestone.

At the ceremonial event, the first sod was turned by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, alongside our lead donors and their families.

Also in attendance at the event, hosted by Cabrini Health Chair Sylvia Falzon AM, and Chief Executive Sue Williams, were local MPs and the CEO of Stonnington Council.

“Today, we are not simply breaking ground on a new development,” Ms Falzon told the gathered guests. “We are transforming the future of healthcare in our community. This project reflects Cabrini’s enduring commitment to innovation, excellence, and above all, to the dignity and wellbeing of every patient and family who comes into our care.

“Today, we acknowledge the many generous individuals, teams, and partners who have contributed to our arrival at this point. Each of you plays a vital role in shaping what Cabrini is today, and, significantly, what it will become. We’re truly grateful for your support.”

The whole-of-site Next Era transformation will increase our capacity, strengthen clinical capability and future-proof Cabrini as one of Melbourne's most trusted healthcare institutions, not just for this generation, but for the next, Ms Williams said.

“So, we thank you for your incredible generosity in supporting us in our mission to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to the 150,000 patients we expect to look after every year within a decade.”
