Eliza's story - beating bowel cancer with Cabrini

"Cabrini saved my life and I knew I was in the best possible hands."

When 38-year old mother of two Eliza Newton experienced some unusual symptoms, she was tempted to ignore it.

It was lockdown in Melbourne during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I felt like my body was trying to tell me something, so I went to the doctor… When I came out after having the procedure my husband had been called in to be there, so I knew it wasn’t good news. My bowel cancer diagnosis and surgery was a whirlwind three weeks and very tough. We learned how far gone the cancer was… how severe it was and what the worst possibilities were.

"The doctors, nurses, everyone at Cabrini, were amazing during a very scary, painful experience. The care I received was invaluable,” said Eliza.  Thanks to the incredible team at Cabrini's Centre of Excellence in Colorectal Cancer, Eliza is now cancer-free and enjoying life with her young family.
