Prostate Awareness Month

September is Prostate Awareness Month – a time for us to raise awareness of the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in men.

At Cabrini we offer specialised care in the field of genitourinary cancer, including kidney, bladder, prostate, ureter, penis and testicular cancers. Recently a long term donor to Cabrini funded the purchase of some vital equipment to help keep Cabrini at the forefront of diagnosis, management and treatment of prostate cancer.

The prostate probe component of the Transperineal Ultrasound takes a sample of the patient’s prostate tissue for cancer diagnosis. The donor chose to fund the prostate probe component and associated test kit. “A very big thank you to the donor from the Cabrini staff, Urologists and patients” says Nurse Manager of the Cabrini Day Procedure Centre Meredith Trist. “This equipment will mean Cabrini can provide more biopsies and therapy for patients in the future, which is essential for the ongoing support of Men’s Health.”

The donor has a close family connection with prostate cancer and wanted to give back to Cabrini in a way which will help future Cabrini patients. He has a long history as a dedicated supporter of Cabrini and gets a lot of satisfaction from helping the hospital which helps his family and the wider community. “We are so appreciative of our donors who give so that we can continue to deliver the best possible care, using the best possible equipment” says Cabrini Foundation Major Gifts Manager Catherine McElhone.
