St Mary’s Hospital in Dubbo, Ethiopia is celebrating the opening of a new kitchen to better serve its patients, staff and visitors, with funds donated by the Cabrini Foundation.
The 100-bed Catholic hospital, run by the Cabrini Sisters, provides healthcare to a population of 100,000 people.
The kitchen of the hospital previously had an earthen floor, pit fires and no smoke extraction. But there is now a safe working environment for staff and a hygienic area for food preparation.
The Sisters also hope the new kitchen can be a revenue-raising opportunity as meal sales will increase – this will help subsidise the care of poor and needy patients from the local community.
